As you’re already aware, due to the very active wildfires in Napa and Sonoma counties and changing wind patterns, smoke is visible throughout the Bay Area. I am devastated at the loss of life and property in the North Bay and hope that the first-responders and fire fighters stay safe in their efforts to battle the fires. My thoughts also go out to the families and businesses who have evacuated or otherwise tragically affected. On a personal note, I’m saddened to see my high school Alma mater burned down. My experiences at that school were formative and shaped my path toward education.
Here in Piedmont, I have been in daily contact with principals and our athletic director concerning PE classes, lunch and recess periods, and after school athletics.
I want to thank our teachers, support staff, and coaches for their flexibility in opening their classrooms during lunch and recess and for holding practices indoors. We will continue to monitor the air quality throughout the week and provide additional notices. Please be aware that school is in session for Thursday and Friday unless the District communicates otherwise.
