May 25, 2015 – Piedmont High School Principal Brent Daniels announced the appointment of Ms. Irma Muñoz as Assistant Principal, effective July 1, 2015.
Ms. Muñoz brings twenty years of educator experience to Piedmont High School. She currently serves as Assistant Principal at San Leandro High School in San Leandro, and she previously served as Assistant Principal for Instruction at Mills High School in Millbrae. Prior to administration, Ms. Muñoz taught Spanish and English Language Development.
As an administrator, Ms. Muñoz planned professional development programs to align curriculum and instruction to the Common Core State Standards. She supervised Counseling, Mathematics, World Languages, English Language Development, and Special Education departments. She served on the district Peer Assistance Review (PAR) committee and worked on the alignment of teacher evaluation criteria to the California Standards for the Teaching Profession. She has experience developing master schedules and conducting the WASC Self-Study, and administering standardized testing programs. Also, she has broad experience with data-based decision-making.
Focusing on the needs of students, Ms. Muñoz has designed and implemented programs to support a broad range of learners, including support classes in math and English, support classes for English learners, and peer tutoring. She served on a Special Education Task Force to ensure that students with special needs receive appropriate services and support.
Ms. Muñoz has two Masters degrees in Education, one from UC Berkeley in Educational Leadership and one from Stanford University in Secondary Education. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Chicano/a Studies with a Minor in Education from UC Davis.
During the interview process Ms. Muñoz expressed that her “educational vision is to ensure that all students have what they need to be successful from the struggling learner to the high achieving student. I will bring this vision to Piedmont High School and work collaboratively with teachers, parents, staff, and community members to support the needs of all students.”
Ms. Muñoz is replacing Ms. Ginna Myers, who is transitioning to the Sacramento area as a Director of Curriculum and Instruction.
