Dear PUSD Families,
With the first day of school rapidly approaching, I am looking forward to introducing myself in my new role as Superintendent, sharing my vision and goals with students and families, and starting a process of community engagement that will continue throughout the year.
On Monday, August 17th from 7:30 – 8:30pm in the Alan Harvey Theater, two days before the start of the new school year, I will present a program entitled, “An Extraordinary Education – Why It Takes Bold Moves to Create Innovative and Inspirational Schools.” I invite all families to attend. I will talk about the District’s ultimate goal to provide an extraordinary 21st Century education, and my role as Superintendent to engage in community dialogue, galvanize resources, build capacity in our staff, ensure forward-thinking curriculum and instructional technology, and maintain fiscal stability. I will also address how innovative and inspiring schools depend on dedicated and bold educators.
The August 17th program will be the first in a series of initiatives to establish robust, two-way communication about District initiatives with students, families, and the broader community. This kind of communications and engagement is essential for the success of our efforts to continually improve our educational programs and support the social and emotional development of students.
For news and information about these and other initiatives throughout the school year, please look for the Spotlight, the District’s monthly electronic newsletter. The first Spotlight of this school year will come out on August 24, and as a general rule they will come out the last Monday of each month. Each Spotlight will include a letter from me, District news and information, brief profiles of teachers, and articles by teachers and staff about classroom practice and innovation.
The Spotlight will also include a list of upcoming meetings (such as Site Council and Budget Advisory meetings, family math nights, and parent education programs) and other opportunities for families to learn and engage about District initiatives. For additional information about the school community and a calendar of school-related events, please look for the Piedmont Portal at http://www.piedmontportal.org/ , the Piedmont Education Foundation’s weekly electronic newsletter, as well as our ParentLink App (PUSD SwitchBoard), and the District’s Twitter feed http://www.twitter.com/piedmontunified.
Please save the date for Monday, August 17th at 7:30pm in the Alan Harvey Theater. I look forward to seeing you there.
Randall Booker, Superintendent
